The Governance Gap That Copilot Revealed

Governance debt accumulates quickly. A site owner leaves, and no one notices that there wasn't a backup owner. A shared channel gets created with external guests and no lifecycle policy. Files spread internally far beyond their intended audience. By the time any of this surfaces through a user complaint, a security event, or a pre-audit scramble, the exposure has already happened. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.Historically, for Microsoft 365 administrators, that was a manageable problem. Something to address in the next quarterly review. Then Copilot and AI arrived.

Copilot doesn't create new permissions. It operates on the access that already exists in your tenant. That overshared OneDrive folder, the SharePoint site with no clear owner, the Team that should have been archived six months ago: Copilot can surface all of it, to anyone who asks the right question and has access. Governance problems that were slow-moving and invisible are now immediate.

Many IT teams are finding this out after enabling Copilot.

Today, we're excited to announce the general availability of ENow M365 Governance Accelerator 1.0, a solution built for Microsoft 365 administrators and operations teams who need a continuous, scored picture of governance posture and risk priority across Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and licensing. It tells you where your tenant stands in its current state, and what to prioritize first.

Why Native Microsoft Tools Leave You In a Reactive State

Microsoft gives your team powerful collaboration capabilities. What it doesn't provide is a unified, continuous picture of how those capabilities are being used, or where governance has declined or lapsed altogether.

The tools most M365 teams rely on weren't designed for speed or complexity of managing Microsoft 365 alongside AI/Copilot. Native admin center reports are fragmented across portals. PowerShell scripts produce data, but require someone to write, run, and interpret them on a cadence most teams can't sustain. Periodic spreadsheet reviews are outdated before they're finished.

The result: you find out something is wrong after it matters. With Copilot and AI pressures expanding across organizations, that window has gotten a lot shorter.

What M365 Governance Accelerator Includes

Version 1.0 includes 50+ governance-focused reports and dashboards across the workloads where collaboration risk concentrates most.

Microsoft Teams Governance

Teams sprawl is one of the most undermanaged governance problems in M365 environments. The tool surfaces ownership gaps, inactive workspaces, and external guest exposure: the specific conditions that create AI readiness risk and pile up management overhead over time.

SharePoint Online Governance

SharePoint sites grow faster than governance policies can follow. M365 Governance Accelerator provides your team with an ongoing operational picture of sharing exposure, ownership accountability, permission drift, and storage growth, updated continuously, not pulled together when someone finally thinks to check.

OneDrive Governance

OneDrive holds a large share of organizational data and typically gets the least governance attention of any M365 workload. This release brings it into view with sharing and access reporting and governance audit history your team would otherwise have to reconstruct manually.

License Intelligence

License intelligence connects governance posture to spend accountability in a single view. These are reports IT and procurement teams have historically pulled manually, if at all. When governance conversations reach leadership, license utilization belongs in the same frame as access and ownership data.

365Gov Score: Understand Your Tenant's Governance Posture Quickly

At the center of the platform is 365Gov Score, a tenant-specific governance assessment developed with guidance from Microsoft governance experts and Microsoft MVPs, grounded in Microsoft 365 best practices.

Every workload gets a score reflecting your tenant's current posture, updated continuously, as well as a cumulative tenant score. Trend data shows whether posture is improving or eroding across each workload over time. When a score changes, item-level drilldown connects that movement to the exact configurations or conditions driving it: not a generic finding, but what is actually happening in your environment.

Summary views and filters make it straightforward to slice data for different audiences: an admin digging into a specific workload issue, or a manager who needs a defensible answer before a leadership update.

The Questions It Helps You Answer

These are the governance questions M365 administrators get asked most often and have the hardest time answering without manual investigation.

  • Ownership and accountability: Which Teams, sites, and workspaces lack active ownership? Where has business accountability become unclear?

  • Sharing and exposure: Which locations are shared more broadly than intended? Where does collaboration need a closer look?

  • Content and storage sprawl: Which environments may no longer be actively used? Where is storage growing without anyone accountable for it?

  • Copilot readiness: Are your sharing practices and governance controls in good enough shape to support and actually influence broader AI adoption, or are there gaps that need closing first?

These aren't questions you should only be able to answer after something goes wrong. M365 Governance Accelerator makes them answerable any day or week, without manual investigation and hours stitching admin center reports and PowerShell together.

Built for the People Running the M365 Tenant

We built this platform for M365 administrators and operations professionals: the people who manage the environment day-to-day and feel it most acutely when governance falls behind the pace of the business.

You don't need a dedicated compliance team to get value from this. You need a consistent signal across the workloads that matter, week over week, so you're responding to what's actually happening in your tenant rather than what someone reported last quarter.

This release lays the foundation for ENow's broader vision for its governance platform. Future Professional and Enterprise editions will add proactive alerting, policy enforcement, workflow-driven remediation, and continuous governance management. Today's release focuses on the question that must come first: do you understand the current state of governance across your Microsoft 365 environment? Before governance can be automated or enforced, it has to be measured.

See It Against Your Own Tenant

The best way to understand your 365Gov Score and the type of analysis that M365 Governance Accelerator will highlight is to see it against your actual data.
