On March 17, 2023, at approximately 6:45 AM ET, Microsoft announced via their Twitter account, @MSFT365status, that they had investigated an issue in which some users may have been unable to manage other users in the Microsoft Teams admin center.

For system administrators and IT professionals who have access to the Microsoft admin center, the service incident number to reference is TM529142.

Typically, Microsoft's first tweet that announces any service incident uses the present tense as to the investigation of an issue.  But for the TM529142 tweet, Microsoft indicated that they had already investigated the issue and they had already remediated.  This single tweet was the only communication from Microsoft as to TM529142.  Additionally, there were very few community responses to this initial tweet.  All of this suggests a very minor issue with minor user impact, and very short-lived.

A check of Microsoft's service status page (as of 11:30 AM ET) shows no issues being reported.  A similar check of portal.office.com shows no issues being reported by Microsoft at this time.

Prior to today, the last Microsoft 365 service incident was last week on March 9th, and this involved a recent Microsoft update that inadvertently caused Microsoft 365 access issues.

The Importance of Microsoft Teams Monitoring

In a cloud-world, outages are bound to happen. While Microsoft is responsible for restoring service during outages, IT needs to take ownership of their environment and user experience. It is crucial to have greater visibility into business impacts during a service outage the moment it happens.

ENow’s Microsoft Teams Monitoring and Reporting solution enables IT Pros to pinpoint the exact services effected and root cause of the issues an organization is experiencing during a service outage by providing:

  • The ability to monitor networks and entire environments in one place with ENow’s OneLook dashboard which makes identifying a problem fast and easy without having to scramble through Twitter and the Service Health Dashboard looking for answers.
  • A full picture of all services and subset of services affected during an outage with ENow’s remote probes which covers several Microsoft 365 apps and other cloud-based collaboration services.
